Renewal and beautification works are planned for the lake at Drouin’s Alex Goudie Flora and Fauna Reserve and Council is inviting the community to have their say on the proposed plans.
Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Councillor Joe Gauci said the proposed works aim to improve environmental values in the area, increase wildlife habitat and improve safety.
“Proposed works include removing and replacing the failing timber retaining wall with a vegetated border to both improve the natural landscape and the safety of the area for residents to enjoy”, said the Mayor.
“Over the past few years the timber retaining wall around the lake has been failing and recently reached a point where public safety may be put at risk.
“We want to see the lake at Alex Goudie Reserve reach its full potential for the community to enjoy, so we have plans to breathe new life into this natural asset.
The proposed upgrade works include:
- Removal of the existing timber edge.
- Planting of more indigenous vegetation around the lake perimeter.
- Installation of habitat logs within the lake.
“New native plantings will help to prevent further erosion over time, improve safety and will also do wonders for increasing habitat for wildlife.
“We want to make sure that the community are on board with the proposed upgrade works and invite residents to have their say on this project”, said the Mayor.
